{"id":3347,"date":"2012-02-21T21:37:55","date_gmt":"2012-02-22T02:37:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/1001harf.com\/W3\/?p=3347"},"modified":"2012-02-21T21:37:55","modified_gmt":"2012-02-22T02:37:55","slug":"iran-nuclear-row-un-inspectors-barred-from-iran-site","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/1001harf.com\/iran-nuclear-row-un-inspectors-barred-from-iran-site\/","title":{"rendered":"Iran nuclear row: UN inspectors barred from Iran site"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/news.bbcimg.co.uk\/media\/images\/58594000\/jpg\/_58594931_58594929.jpg\" alt=\"Chief IAEA inspector Herman Nackaerts\" width=\"304\" height=\"171\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The team of IAEA inspectors was led by Herman Nackaerts<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The UN nuclear watchdog says Iran has stopped a team of inspectors from visiting a key military site.<\/p>\n<p>The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) says no deal was been reached on inspecting the Parchin site, south of Tehran, despite &#8220;intensive efforts&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>The inspectors had sought to clarify the &#8220;possible military dimensions&#8221; of Iran&#8217;s nuclear programme.<\/p>\n<p>Iran says its programme is for peaceful purposes, but the West suspects it is geared towards making weapons.<\/p>\n<p>The IAEA says its team is returning from Iran without a deal after two days of talks. The first round of discussions in January also failed to produce a result.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It is disappointing that Iran did not accept our request to visit Parchin,&#8221; IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>It is suspected that Parchin was the site where explosives related to nuclear weapons may have been tested in recent years.<\/p>\n<p>Tehran has made no public comments of the latest remarks by the Vienna-based IAEA.<\/p>\n<p>The BBC&#8217;s Bethany Bell in Vienna says the refusal to grant access to Parchin does not come as a major surprise, as there has been so little progress in the negotiations between Iran and the IAEA.<\/p>\n<p>Israeli strike speculationThe inspectors&#8217; evaluation of their visits may form part of the next report on Iran&#8217;s nuclear programme, expected later in February.<\/p>\n<p>But last November, the IAEA said it had information suggesting Iran had carried out tests &#8220;relevant to the development of a nuclear explosive device&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>This led to decisions by the US and the European Union to tighten sanctions against Tehran, including measures targeting the country&#8217;s oil industry.<\/p>\n<p>Tensions have risen further over speculation that Israel may carry out a military strike on Iran&#8217;s nuclear facilities.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The team of IAEA inspectors was led by Herman Nackaerts<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[11],"tags":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/1001harf.com\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/3347"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/1001harf.com\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/1001harf.com\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/1001harf.com\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/1001harf.com\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=3347"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/1001harf.com\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/3347\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/1001harf.com\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=3347"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/1001harf.com\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=3347"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/1001harf.com\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=3347"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
