{"id":8716,"date":"2013-07-10T11:05:39","date_gmt":"2013-07-10T15:05:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/1001harf.com\/?p=8716"},"modified":"2013-07-10T11:05:39","modified_gmt":"2013-07-10T15:05:39","slug":"born-in-buffalo-new-york-the-waltons-actor-joe-conley-dies-at-85","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/1001harf.com\/born-in-buffalo-new-york-the-waltons-actor-joe-conley-dies-at-85\/","title":{"rendered":"Born in Buffalo  New York  The Waltons actor Joe Conley dies at 85"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/1001harf.com\/W3\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/joeconley.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-8717 alignleft\" alt=\"joeconley\" src=\"https:\/\/1001harf.com\/W3\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/joeconley.jpg\" width=\"181\" height=\"226\" \/><\/a>US actor Joe Conley, best known for his role as shopkeeper Ike Godsey in long-running TV series The Waltons, has died aged 85.<\/p>\n<p>His wife, Louise, said he died at a care home in Newbury Park, California, on 7 July.<\/p>\n<p>Conley, who starred in The Waltons for more than 10 years, had been suffering from dementia.<\/p>\n<p>He landed the role of the Jefferson County general store owner when the series started in 1972.<\/p>\n<p>The actor spent most of his on-screen time opposite Ronnie Claire Edwards, who portrayed his bossy wife Corabeth Walton Godsey.<\/p>\n<p>Born in Buffalo, New York, in 1928, Conley moved to California to pursue an acting career after serving in the army during the Korean War.<\/p>\n<p>He had bit parts in the 1960s series Green Acres and The Beverly Hillbillies before he joined The Waltons.<\/p>\n<p>He published his autobiography, Ike Godsey of Walton&#8217;s Mountain, in 2009.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>US actor Joe Conley, best known for his role as shopkeeper Ike Godsey in long-running TV series The Waltons, has died aged 85.
