Doctor admits having sex with patient in office

(Buffalo – NY)  A Clarence doctor has been charged with sexually abusing a 49-year-old woman during a medical appointment in his Depew office, according to investigators of the state Attorney General’s Office.

Dr. Dharam Paul Garg, 62, of Shimerville Road, faces a felony charge of committing a criminal sexual act and a misdemeanor count of sexual abuse.

Garg admitted in a signed statement that he had sexual relations with the patient over the past two years, according to the Attorney General’s Office.

What sparked the investigation occurred Nov. 9 in Garg’s office at 3218 Walden Ave., according to the patient, who provided authorities with a video recording of the incident taken with her cellphone.

After the woman provided the recording to authorities, investigators with the state Attorney General’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit, state Department of Health Bureau of Narcotics Enforcement and Depew police questioned Garg, who specializes in internal medicine, in his office.

Garg was arraigned Friday before Depew Village Justice Gordon N. Willis, who set bail at $50,000 cash and $150,000 bond.

The investigation into Garg’s medical practice is continuing, said Michelle Hook, a spokeswoman for the state Attorney General’s Office. Garg is scheduled to return to court Dec. 5.

Garg was the second doctor in the past week charged with a felony. An emergency room physician from Youngstown was arrested Tuesday after federal drug agents raided his home. Dr. Daniel Gillick, 62, was charged with misdemeanor possession of crack cocaine. He was arraigned before U.S. Magistrate Judge Hugh B. Scott, who released him on $5,000 bond.
